My Migration to a M1 MacBook Air
Hello,
This is the first in a series that I am going to write about my migration from a Dell Latitude E7450, Dell’s thinner model. It is 6 years old.
Specs: CPU. Intel Core i5–5300U 331.
GPU. Intel HD Graphics 5500 264.
Display. 14.0", Full HD (1920 x 1080), IPS.
Storage: 512GB SSD
Memory: 16GB RAM
O/S: Windows 10 Pro (Kept current)
It’s still a good machine and rock solid. Though it is 6 year old technology now. It does seem to run warm and the fan is on quite often. I think that is the way it is just designed and engineered. It is from Dell’s Enterprise line of laptops. It’s meant to be a work horse. Of which it is. I looked up on eBay to see what these are being sold for. What a shame, $150 on average. Retail new it was $1,300. It also came with 4 years of onsite next day support. So that is a a chunk of the price. If only it was a 6 year old Mac I’m sure it would go for $500. Over the years I have trucked this laptop across the US with me on multiple multiple occasions. Never a hic up. I am not sure what I will do with it. Not selling it. For $150 that is complete insult to this machine.

My ramblings on why I am migrating to a M1 MacBook Air:
Already being dedicated to the Apple ecosystem from my iPhone and iPad
Syncing Photos
iMessage
Build quality (No fan)
Privacy / Security

**M1** — Speed! So much better memory and graphics handling.
I am looking forward to learning a lot. I haven’t touched a Mac in about 6 years. Had an old white MacBook while on a work project for 8 months. Don’t even remember what version of OSX it was running. I do know it had a rotational HD (sloooooooooooooow) and I believe 4GB of RAM (Sloooooooooow). That MacBook did NOT impress me at all. What a tank. So lets see what 6 years later offers. I have started a small YouTube Channel so I will use the MBA for video editing. Nothing fancy. At this point looking to use iMovie. Any suggestions for a beginner? I see the Mac will come with QuickTime. I didn’t think that still existed. Good grief does anyone out there still use it? I am excited to try the Mac out. Now I do have some issues with it. Very dated look in 2021. Look at those bezels. And the over all design hasn’t been updated in how many years? Can you imagine if Dell or HP was not refreshing their laptops but for once every 5 years? Good grief the tech media would have a melt down.
Anyways... I am not due to get the Mac for a week yet. Why does it take Apple literally 4 weeks to deliver? I could have ordered from Best Buy or Amazon and had it in 2 days. I went with Apple to use Apple financing of 12 month zero interest and the cash back.
Thank you for the read. Please do a Clap, if you liked the article of my rambling thoughts :-) I will follow up with Part 2 next week.
